Marilyn Day, President

As an independent educational researcher, Marilyn’s primary focus is program evaluation specializing in participatory action research evaluations. Her expertise is based on a career of developing and teaching educational programming to children, youth and adults. Marilyn has over 30 years’ experience working with not-for-profits, charities, governmental offices and for-profit organizations. Marilyn has been an active board member for the Fort Gary Women’s Centre, Literacy Partners of Manitoba, the Duncan Abbeyfield Society House, and the Duncan United Church in BC. Marilyn earned a doctorate degree at Nottingham University, UK.

 

Shanshan Wang, Executive Director

Shanshan Wang is a teacher of English as Additional Language (EAL) in both English at Work and English for Newcomers. She uses her expertise designing, developing, and delivering ESL programs. She is an experienced program developer; designing and delivering EAL programs to businesses and non-profit organizations. During the past 18 years, Shanshan worked as an EAL Program Manager Assistant and a Workplace English Program Coordinator. For the past four years, Shanshan has been an EAL specialist for a not-for profit organization. Educated in China and Canada, Shanshan is a well trained and experienced professional in the field of teaching English as an Additional Language. She has a Masters of Education degree from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Level 3 TESL Certificate. Shanshan enjoys the challenges of delivering practical EAL programs to newcomers; bringing unique insights and valuable expertise to E-STARS Winnipeg.

 

Nancy Eidsvig, Secretary

Nancy was a University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine Program Assistant from 1988-2011 and Manitoba Brain Injury Association Board Member from1988-2011. Expertise in office administration for education and research programs and projects.

 

Richard Chong, IT Support

Richard is an IT Support at E-STARS. He has 5 years of IT Support experience. During the past 5 years, he has been working in diagnose and maintain local area network, website design, hardware technical and software technical services. He designed and developed an automated key entering machine with teleoperation in 2018. He volunteered in the Computer Lab of University of Manitoba working on designing 3D models (parts) for the humanoid robots and working on robotic ideas for the International Applied Intelligence Competition in 2019. He also developed and maintains E-STARS website as an IT Support.

 

Soudabeh Golpaygani, Instructor

Soudabeh is a CELBAN preparation instructor at E-STARS. She has been an instructor and a teacher trainer of EAL (English as an additional Language) for adult learners during the past 15 years with a CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) grade B from the university of Cambridge, TOT (Training of Teachers) from British Council, and a BA in nursing.  Her passion is to help internationally educated nurses and other professionals pursue their careers in Canada.

 

 

Erum Imran, Instructor

Erum is a dedicated CTESL certified teacher from the University of Winnipeg. She has been teaching English language in the last seven years. Her previous experience includes instruction in class and online to people belonging to varied socio-cultural backgrounds and ages. Holding a Master’s degree in International Relations, Erum spent 20 years of her life. She also worked as an e-facilitator at English Online Inc, an immigrant settlement agency in Winnipeg and a conversation facilitator at the Immigrant Centre of Manitoba. and a language partner for Intensive English Program. Her passion for teaching and eagerness towards technology-enhanced learning lead her to do a certification in Instructional designing from the University of Manitoba.
